THE FOUNDER

THE FOUNDER

Gary Gordon Wilson

Four Decades of Marine Diamond Recovery.

Fifty Years of Professional Diving.

One Vision for the Future.

A Lifetime Beneath the Surface

GAMECHANGER is the culmination of a lifetime spent beneath the sea.

For more than fifty years, Gary Wilson has worked as a professional diver, progressing from South African Navy-trained Part II Clearance Diver to commercial diver, diving supervisor, instructor, vessel owner, production manager, skipper and senior electrical saturation technician.

More than forty of those years have been devoted to marine diamond recovery along the west coast of Southern Africa, where practical experience was gained under some of the most demanding underwater mining conditions in the world.

Experience Earned Through Production

Unlike many new technologies developed from theoretical concepts, GAMECHANGER has been shaped by decades of practical production.

Throughout his career, Gary has worked on numerous marine diamond recovery vessels in roles including:

  • Vessel Owner
  • Skipper
  • Diamond Production Supervisor
  • Production Manager
  • Commercial Diver
  • Maintenance Technician
  • Marine Prospector
  • Motorman
  • Engineering Support

Every role contributed to a deeper understanding of underwater mining, vessel operations and production efficiency.

Three Vessels. Three Chapters.

Lucille Way

Gary's first marine diamond recovery vessel. This chapter laid the foundation for his understanding of offshore production and included the well-known Holgat diamond recovery.

Surveyor

Recovered as a hull from Lambert's Bay, rebuilt over six months and launched into one of South Africa's most demanding marine diamond concessions.
The Surveyor consistently achieved strong production for six years having produced thousands of carats before eventually being lost at sea, providing invaluable operational experience that would later influence the GAMECHANGER design.

Sea Hawk

The culmination of years of operational refinement.

Widely regarded by Gary as the most efficient vessel he owned, the Sea Hawk represented decades of continuous improvement in vessel layout, gravel handling, diver productivity and production management.

Many of the engineering principles behind GAMECHANGER were refined during this period.

Beyond Marine Diamonds

Gary also spent approximately ten years as a Senior Electrical Saturation Technician aboard advanced offshore diving support vessels, including the DSV Toisa Puma and DSV Toisa Pegasus.

Working in deep-water offshore environments provided valuable experience in complex hydraulic systems, electrical systems, life-support technology, operational discipline and large-scale engineering projects.

This experience broadened the engineering perspective that would later contribute to the GAMECHANGER concept.

The Birth of GAMECHANGER

After decades of observing both the strengths and limitations of diver-based marine diamond recovery, one conclusion became increasingly clear.

The limitation was never the diver.

The limitation was the human body's ability to remain underwater.

GAMECHANGER was conceived to preserve the skill, judgement and experience of the diver while replacing the physical limitations of human endurance with precision engineering and continuous operation.

It is not an attempt to replace human knowledge. It is an attempt to multiply its effectiveness.

A Legacy Beyond Mining

For Gary Wilson, GAMECHANGER represents more than a business opportunity.

It is an opportunity to leave behind technology that improves safety, increases productivity, creates skilled employment and establishes an engineering capability capable of serving underwater industries throughout the world.

The vision extends beyond marine diamonds to a future in which remotely operated precision recovery systems contribute to responsible underwater resource development across multiple industries.

"Experience cannot be manufactured. It must be earned. GAMECHANGER is the product of a lifetime spent earning that experience."

Lessons from the Seabed

About the lessons forty years of marine diamond production taught you.

For example:

  • Every tide teaches patience.
  • Every breakdown teaches engineering.
  • Every storm teaches preparation.
  • Every diamond teaches humility.
  • Every crew teaches leadership.

Those aren’t just sayings—they’re the principles that shaped how you think and why GAMECHANGER was conceived. I think ending your Founder page with those lessons would make it deeply personal and memorable, while still being grounded in your professional journey.
